Amsterdecks is project which is installing a network of water quality monitoring devices in Amsterdam's system of canals and waterfronts.
The water quality in Amsterdam is changing rapidly during the year. Besides other influences, especially in the summer months when the city is struck by heavy rainfalls, sewers are overflowing and locally contaminating the water. A network of water sensor can quickly and in real-time identify if citizens can safely swim in the water of their waterfront.
To involve citizens in the improvement of the water quality in Amsterdam and give people save access to swim in the cities canals and waterfronts.
Amster Decks are public ramps which give swimmers access to the waterfront while displaying information about the water quality. In addition to that, the current water quality is explained by identifying the origin of contamination and educate citizens about measures which can improve the cleanliness of the water.
