With our special battery storage for streetlighting poles you will be able to provide power to additional systems on poles (like sensors) and to luminaires continously and independently from recurring power cuts (no matter if intentional or unintentional). It gives you the chance to extend the functionality of your poles without expensive adjustments on the power grid or in buying new luminaires. This special storage is also able to bridge power cuts at nighttime to provide uninterruptable Illumination and safety. This is not only relevant to create a save and comfortable environment in cities, it is also very important to every location with special security requirements.

Problem

1. In many areas of this world, the streetlighting infrastructure is powered by a seperate power grid, which is turned off at daytime. This is making it impossible to extend the streetlighting infrastructure with additional technologies and systems like parking sensors, air quality sensors, communication networks and so on. This is pity, because streetlighting is predestined to do more for it`s environment than just lighitng. To switch the power grids to a 24/7 mode is very often not practicable or very expensive. In any case new controlable luminaires would be needed, because there would be no control by the grid anymore.



2. In many areas power grids are not very steady. Sometimes the power is gone for a while or there are several interrupts during the night.

Provide power to additional systems (like sensors) and luminaires continously and independently from recurring power cuts (no matter if intentional or unintentional).

Spatial Level

Approach

Integration of an battery storage inside of lampposts which is loaded during nighttime to buffer systems during daytime or to bridge unintentional power cuts during nighttime. The battery storage is of an max. diameter of only 10cm, so it will fit into almost every pole. Next to that, the storage is of an flexible construction, which allows to insert it through small inspection doors of poles. It is able to buffer a 25W consumer for round about 18 hours, or a 80W consumer for round about 3 hours. The storage is fitting inside poles with an min. diameter (inside) of only 10cm.
