EnergieKoplopers is a project to study a smart grid in real neighborhood.
With more people producing electrical energy themselves using solar panels and wind turbines, the energy system is changing rapidly. While the sustainable production is a positive development for the environment and the climate, it creates the challenge to ensure that energy supply and demand are carefully managed. In the project this management examined in the a smart energy field trial in Heerhugowaard.
To study how the supply and demand of energy can be managed more efficiently
To build the test system, participating households were equipped with smart appliance which communicate independently online with the smart energy system. The energy producing solar panels and turbines are monitored with smart meters which are also connected to the smart energy system. The smart energy system is managing demand and supply by automatically switching the smart devices on or off without any intervention of the resident. The participants can check the automated system and the levels of energy consumption and generation in their homes on a central website.
