Zonstation 1 is a project to install solar modules on the roof of the train station Reigersbos in Amsterdam which are financed and used by local citizens.
Many citizens want to produce their own solar energy but are not owning a suitable roof or capital.
To provide every citizen with self-produced solar energy.
In the project, a roof on top of a metro station is rented for the coming 25 years and equipped with solar panels. Citizens can buy individual panels for 350€ and receive all profits while only paying for the rent of the roof and maintenance fees. The panel owners consume their generated energy, profit from subsidies and sell excess energy on the market. The investment is planned to break even after 13 years.
